Characteristic

White crystal with sublimation, with citronella aroma, and slightly medicinal aroma. Insoluble in cold water, soluble in hot water, ethanol, ether, chloroform.

Applications

1. Coumarin is an important spice, often used as a fixing agent. It is used to prepare perfume and toilet water essence, and is also used as an odorant for cigarettes, rubber products, plastic products, etc. In Germany, coumarin is banned as a tobacco additive.

2. It is used in the manufacture of fragrances, as a fixing agent, and also in the electroplating industry

3. Use as fluorescence indicator.

NO open flames. Handling in a well ventilated place. Wear suitable protective clothing. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Avoid formation of dust and aerosols. Use non-sparking tools. Prevent fire caused by electrostatic discharge steam. Separated from food and feedstuffs.
